HISTORY OF HERSHEY BAR
The Hershey Bar is The Hershey Company's trademark candy bar, founded by Milton Hershey of Pennsylvania. The initial form was a square of milk chocolate. Hershey's recipe has been reformulated, with the announcement in 2015 that all of Hershey's chocolate products would have their components modified and made simpler and easier to understand. By the end of 2015, PGPR (Polyglycerol polyricinoleate) and vanillin have been removed from Hershey's Bar's recipe. Vanillin is an artificial ingredient made from plant-based materials that gives the taste of vanilla to snacks, candy and food. PGPR is an emulsifier derived from castor bean oil, and vanillin is an artificial ingredient made from plant-based materials that gives the taste of vanilla to candy, snacks and food. According to Will Papa, Vice President and Chief Research & Development Officer at The Hershey Company, natural vanilla is more difficult to provide a consistent product with than vanillin.
